Requires Transducer which is sold separately.

Overview of Ultrasonic Measurement

The following series of Web pages presents an 'Overview of Ultrasonic Measurement' of fasteners. Ultrasonic measurement provides a very precise method of determining the elongation of a fastener due to tightening. This elongation is proportional to the load force exerted on the fastener.

Required Equipment

Bolt Preparation

Calibrating the Ultrasonics

Measuring the Unloaded Lengths

Measuring the Elongation

Producing Reports

Sonic Bolt Utility Software

The USM-II can produce reports by sending data over its RS-232 port.

The reports can be sent to a printer directly, to a computer using a communications port, or to a computer using the SonicBolt Software. The report format is designed to be imported into a spreadsheet software for creating graphs and data analysis.

Use Our Calculators

Norbar has devised easy-to-use online calculators that support the correct application of torque in three key areas:

  1. Unit conversion to assist international measurement definitions.
  2. Torque extension for setting correct values
  3. Torque tension to identify precise levels of torque to be applied for individual applications.
